I was never really very significantly overweight so I didn’t need to diet but I had noticed that I was starting so develop a bit of extra fat in the midsection. I realized I was turning into one of those “thin-fat” people, carrying fat around internal organs. After reading about John’s experiences on here and watching many of the videos he’s posts links to I realized that there was a lot of science behind it that could be justified by common sense. Since this winter I have changed my diet significantly and it was a lot easier than I imagined. I’m not so much on a keto diet as a low carb diet. I don’t think I really have to go full keto at this point and I doubt I ever will need to as I changed my eating habits early enough. I still fall off the wagon sometimes for a day or two when around the wrong foods but in general I eat virtually no breads and very few foods with added sugar or starches. I generally eat only eggs for breakfast and lots of meat at mealtimes. Oh, and I stopped using margarine and switched to using only butter, and lots of it when I cook. That’s what makes it fairly easy to cut out carbs. By substituting fat for carbs it really allows for very tasty meals of all the good stuff like bacon. Really, most of the stuff that we have been told to stay away from actually seems to be good for you, as long as you don’t combine it with sugars and starches. The main reason I’m not full keto is because for dinner and supper I generally eat what is on the table, I just try to eat as little of the high carb foods as possible. I find hunger to feel different than before. I can skip a meal and I know I’m a bit hungry, but I never feel that “I’ve got to get something to eat” feeling. I am noticing that everything tastes a lot sweeter too so I don’t even want to add sugar. I do notice that I get a bit light headed sometimes if I stand up quickly though. From what I read I think it is from lower blood sugar levels and it will likely get better as my body adjusts to a different diet. All in all, I’m very grateful to have learned about and switched to new eating habits and I never want to go back. I’d definitely recommend cutting down on carbs. Just be aware that there is an adjustment period and you need to stick with it for a while to feel the effects.


I thought I was the only "skinny fat" person!  I 6'3" and at the beginning of the year was right at 185lbs.  32" waist and looked ok.....with clothes on.  Runner and swimmer and ate what ever I wanted.  Envy of my friends.  When they found out I was trying to cut back on sugar they shook their heads.  So did my wife. For the first few weeks or even month I didn't get much response in terms of weight loss but I did notice that I didn't have energy highs and lows.  In mid-late February (4-5 weeks in) I started dropping weight.  I've actually cut back on running and kept loosing weight.  This morning I was at 164.  I don't need to loose more but my "man-boobs" are almost gone so I'll stick with it.  I've actually added some sugar back the past month and still lost 3-4 lbs.  I don't eat nearly the amount of food I used to eat.  Breakfast is a banana and cup of Okios Greek Yogurt.  Lunch and Supper are what ever the wife makes or I find in the fridge.  I don't specifically do low carb but basically only eat bread if its a sandwich.  I still go to McDonalds once in a while and had a Chick-Fil-a sandwich last night.  I try to not eat junk in the evenings.  Maybe some guacamole with corn chips or more yogurt.  I went for a run this morning and felt fantastic after four miles but had to get ready for church.  My biggest problem is my size 32 pants and shorts are too big and my belts are running out of holes.
