Coldwater, Michigan | The reason the Coop can't buy it that cheap is often because they are locked into their "Domestic Distributor". Meaning that often the distributor is their main office. When I was with Terra as a manager, we often saw what appeared to be opportunities to buy for less, but mother Terra had to get her "pass thru" to pay their bills. By then we sometimes were unable to compete with some of the local prices. With Sohigro years earlier, we often times had to pay more because of the pass thru than what it cost the local dealers buying from the wholesale division of Sohigro (Vistron Chemical).
The reason they could get cheaper and are not interested, is often times because they don't have a choice! If they bought cheaper, mother doesn't get her cut. Carried to the extreme it could actually cost a manger his job.
Now, if they had something unique to the industry, and it did a better job for you, you would probably be willing to pay a "little" extra.
