There are roads in Missouri very close to the river, not official river roads. Not as modern at 61 either, but lots of river visible from Missouri. The river road on the Illinois side stays close to the river bank and in the river bottom west of the bluffs. The Missouri roads climb the bluffs often. Get official Illinois and Missouri road maps for those details. Last I knew there were several ferries across the river in northern Missouri.
