I've seen the same thing - sometimes they won't even go where the wire USED to be! Here though they like the clover so much it overcomes any hesitation about crossing where the wire was.

Generally I get the wire out of the way completely. When I've tried having them step over it there is the hesitation and someone always seems to get caught and drag the aluminum wire causing a lot of grief and possible injury... There is usually no problem just unhooking it and moving it out of the way for 10 - 15 ft so they can pass by.

This is a lot easier if the wire goes dead when you remove the handle rather than energizing the other end and it's still hot. I just hang the reel on old barb wire near a post at the other end.
