It's funny how they know EXACTLY how far they can reach under the hot wire without getting zapped. Mine do the exact same thing. Mine respect that wire so much that they don't like to cross where it usually is without a careful look to make sure it's not on the ground. I first tried unhooking it and laying it on the ground, thinking they could just step over it like I drive over it on the skid loader or 4 wheeler, but they wouldn't step over it. I have to pull it back out of their way.
