What year machine? Electronic handle or cable drive?
If you wiggle the handle with the key in the start position will it crank? There are a couple switches in the armrest for neutral start and reversing horn.
There is a spot along the frame by the battery box where the positive cable has a joint that can cause the odd issue also.
