| At what point is it worth it to start grinding your own feed? Last winter I fed six tons as a supplement for fall calvers and another 3.5 tons back grounding calves. It also looks like I am going to be finishing out at least five steers as well this winter, which took 1.5 tons per steer last year. 14% protein soy hull-corn-cotton seed feed is $235/ton delivered from the local mill and ear corn is $131/ton delivered from a local farmer. Would buying a cheap feed grinder such as an old New Holland 353 and grinding ear corn save enough money to be worth while? | |
