| NEI, your experience is exactly why I don't fool with insurance on livestock. I'd rather take my chances.
Dad never insured cows but always used to insure the bulls he purchased. IMO, the insurance is a joke. To make a claim the bull had to die from lightning, not natural causes. And the bull had to die, not just be disabled by a broken tool, broken leg, foot rot, etc, you get the idea. You're still stuck with salvage value on a $2K+ bull or whatever he cost you in the first place. I've never had a bull die on the place, but have sure had plenty have to go down the road for the above reasons.
I don't carry insurance on any animal now. This was part of a State Farm ranch policy. Other companies might be more user friendly, but I wouldn't bet on it. | |
