I'm afraid rats would smell them in there and chew a hole in something to get at them.
I don't keep anything in the hopper of my cyclo planter, but I have had mice chew through the plastic chute under the hopper twice now. The policy is now to just leave the chute open. You might be more likely to have that problem leaving seed in the thing.
Let me know if this is a bad idea, storing extra beans in cyclo hopper?
