I wouldn't get too worked up about it. The guy saw a fun challenge, evaluated the risks, and decided his skill was sufficient to make it happen.
As for yourself, you were doing nothing wrong, and you could have in no way prevented his actions. Just laugh a bit, be grateful he made it through okay, and move on.
