Hello all,
We have a JD 730 that seeds with a row of double disks. What happens as these start to wear out? I'm guessing it's not as simple as just dropping your depth stops and getting more life out of them? I did notice that our oats are poorer in the tire tracks? Related or just a wet conditions problem? Also, do you replace the bearing when you replace the disks of just reuse them? Never had a bearing fail yet but I assume thats a matter of time...
Thanks

I have a Great Plains.

-On mine one disk is positioned farther ahead of the other to cut better but the leading disk wears faster. They can be swapped
-They get dull.
-They get smaller in diameter which means there is now a big gap between them where they cut the soil.
-they don’t penetrate as well, meaning the closing wheel can’t do its job
-I can remove shims behind the disk... this moves the disks tighter together to close the gap and it an extra season maybe.
-Whether or not to it the assembly depends on the price vs your labor cost. I replace the assembly.
