Southwest Illinois
In Southwest IL SDS is always a possibility. It is soil born and you either have it or you don't. Certain varieties tend to show symptoms while others do not and that can vary year to year. The best example I can think of was about 5 years ago. DKB38-52 and DKB46-51. 38-52 would get tore up bad and just about die. They still yielded well in most cases. 46-51 would look about the same but yields would be impacted severely. Variety selection is critical with field drainage another consideration. May plantings seem to be at risk if we have excess moisture at flowering. Tillage definately seems to have a positive affect on the symtoms.
