Subject: Ed Winkle, soybean questions

Mascoutah, Illinois
Ed, SDS is starting to show up some in some areas. Our beans were planted the last week of June and the first week of July and we haven't seen any signs of SDS around this area. Aphids are our concern along with some white mold. My first question is if you plant soybeans in cool and wet conditions do you enhance your chances of SDS showing up in your soybean crop? My second question is does the cooler weather and lack of sunshine after the crop is out of the ground enhance SDS also?

My belief is if you plant soybeans too early in the spring, you increase your odds of SDS showing up. Am I wrong? I took a few critical comments back in late May when I said SDS would become an issue in the north because of the cool and wet spring.

Thank you for your comments. They are always appreciated!!!
