Sounds like an issue in wiring to the sensor unfortunately. Talk to a tech, there should be an address that shows voltage at each extreme. Is it reading a change up and down? It would certainly error and not cal if a wire was broken and giving no reading. The constant hunting sounds like a wire rubbing.
Only option beyond that would be a controller i believe.
