Subject: RE: Changing ethanol stance

west central MN

Why do you think ethanol has failed? It has been using over 1/3 of our corn production the last few years. The whole world lost the demand for all fuels. Crude oil went negative for a day or two. Ethanol producers where able to cut back production before ethanol went negative. If driving picks up the demand will be back and the ethanol plants will be buying our corn again. It was a pandemic that cut our demand, not a failure in the ethanol industry. You say we should get ride of ethanol. What would we do with the 4 billion bu. of corn that ethanol plants use if we don't have them? If we get rid of the mandate there will still be a market for the ethanol as it is 113 octane and it will be needed to bring the octane level of gas up. It is more efficient for most refinerys to add the ethanol to bring the octane up. Hopefully there is also a future for ethanol in the diesel industry.
