Big oil has at least 1000 lobbyists for every one lobbyist ethanol has, so to say they have wasted time lobbying is incorrect. Spend some time at a state capital, go to committee hearings etc. what do stare senators and national senators and congresspeople do when they are not in session, they meet with people, and what does every person who meets with them do? They are lobbying the senator, whether they are a lobbyist or not. Elected officials don’t just come up with all these notions. I have met with many state senators here in nebraska in their office, voicing my opinion.

Now why is all this important? First because it’s going to happen whether you throw your hands in the air and walk away or not. If you walk away from the fight, your spot will immediately be filled by another viewpoint. If ethanol walks away, it will be shot dead and trampled on its way out the door. The oil lobby will have laws passed so it dies in its sleep. The problem with ethanol is that it hasn’t fought hard enough and is short on staff. The problem with the corn growers association is that they think they can fight 10,000 oil lobbyists with 6. The strategy is wrong, leaving and giving up is the worst idea. Getting organized and getting ag all on the same page is the best idea.

Time to surrender. How many more years and years are we going to fight, only to end up in the same place. Broken ethanol promises, high rents, high COP's, and massive surpluses, ONLY for the ethanol plants to shut down and not buy our corn.

Time to walk away from Big Ethanol and try something else. Anything else is better than the current situation we have with flimsy Big Ethanol.

Time to rent your farm out. Let someone else carry the flag.
