Subject: RE: Peas and swathing

Rivers, MB
I'm not sure I would ever put the words fun and peas in the same sentence. Interesting maybe but not fun. Difficult to keep clean, pain to seed (due to innoculating and treating), and a chore to harvest (at least some years due to lodging). They are good for the soil, and profitable so we keep growing them though. Never swathed them so can't comment on that. We just got a draper head this year so maybe the harvest part will get better. We got hail on our peas 2 weeks before they were ready to combine and so some of the pods split open and we are loosing peas. Then, almost 2" of rain and now they are starting to germinate in the pod. Nasty looking sample. I think they will be feed peas this year. Looks like there will be lots of bushels though.
