Galahad, Alberta | Just went by a neighbour's field this afternoon and they were picking up pea swaths. Swath them when they start to get firm and let them cure in the swath. Only problem is a good strong wind can raised hell with the swaths, especially if they are a thin, light crop. Most years you have to cut them about 3-5" off the ground. They tend to fall over when they get ripe. Rolling your peas is a must if you have rocks. I would use peas as an excuse to get a draper header myself. It's what I did about 9 years ago. We haven't swathed any cereals or peas since 2001. The IH guys like to put in the wide spaced concaves for peas, helps the big seeds get out of the rotor. Slow your rotors down, open up the chaffer, give them lots of wind.
