Subject: Tillage Question for Eastern Colorado and Western Kansas Farmers

Concordia, KS
I was driving from Hesston, KS to Monte Vista, Colorado today for work and when I drove through Eastern Colorado and the very edge of Western Kansas, I noticed lots of tillage going on. Being in such a moisture limited area, why all the tillage? It really surprised me. Around Dodge City, it seemed like everything was notilled and cut with a stripper header, but that trend seemed to go away towards extreme Western Kansas and Eastern Colorado. Not trying to start a no till debate, but was just very surprised at the amount of tillage and wanted to know why tillage ruled over no till or reduced till.

Thanks,

Kevin
