| it is thought that the soybean aphid only infests two plants the soybean and the buckthorn
soybean aphids overwinter (well actually lay eggs that hatch next spring) on buckthorn plants which occur in the northern parts of the united states/ and into canada
buckthorn was also sometimes planted as an ornamental shrub in some cities (due to its hardiness) in fact the iowa state university campus has a lot planted there if my sources are correct
