I don't know if they are using a special sand mix or that is just the nature of the soil on their sod farm.
We have plenty of sand here in spots and in fact would be impossible to irrigate if not for pivots as the infiltration rate on gravity irrigation is so high that the water when in a furrow quickly disappears. In other words it goes no where but down.
