We ordered some weld on grouser bars to build up the pads on a dozer. They work great. I can't say enough good things about Duratuff.
They were great to deal with. We called them with the dozer model, and pad width, and a few days later, a pallet of precut bars showed up. The lady on the phone was very helpful - good folks. The old girl should hog dirt better now....

That is a lot of welding! Somebody might have gotten a suntan out of that if not protected.

Hi Kelly - The welder we hired to do it, is as brown as a hershey bar all year around!

Good morning Dave -

Ha!  You caught us!

Actually they were calling for rain, and we had to drive it across a muddy field to get it to a barn where we could work in the rain.  The welder showed up, and I didnt get anything done other than cleaning the pads for him.

Ha!  Yep, it makes her look mean at least.

We had been noticing that when pushing topsoil off where we want a terrace, in a heavy load, it would start to slide sideways back and forth just a smidge as the tracks were spinning a bit.  Hopefully this helps.  Its this or weight it down, or both?

Just need to get used to holding a light cut without gouging, that is where you break traction. Tracks should not spin. Makes cleanup a lot easier too.

I came across this company at CONEXPO this year and I’m looking forward to trying a set.

https://www.trackgripinternational.com/

I’m just mentioning them on here because they do have a set for rubber tracks.

I’ve never used this product before - just sharing!

I think they’ll be good but I haven’t had a chance to try them yet. I just found this company in March so I didn’t get to try them.

I work for a CAT Dealer and we do a ton of rentals with tracked machines, even in the winter. I’m gonna try and push these bolt on cleats next fall to customers. The cost of purchasing them is around $6500 per machine (I think?) if you really get aggressive with the spacing (you can put them on every other, 3rd, 4th, etc pad) and the time and labor savings, plus the savings on a trailer during loading seems to make these a no-brainer. But again, we’ll see!!

How much will you have in the weld ons (bars and welder labor) vs new grousers?

Hi Ron -

I don't know quite yet. But new grouser pads from Deere were $8800.00 a side plus bolts if needed? I bet we are around $3500.00 total with the weld on ones.

If your run in rocky ground you might need a couple more passes with the welder.

Hi Joe -

That picture was taken when he wasn't finished yet.  We went all the way around and tacked them on, then made a pass on one side, then around again to make a pass on the other side.  Now we need to do it again and fill out to the edges.  He is welding them right now as I type.

We did a 550 Deere and it took a 50# box of rod.
I'd grind the top edge off, just a little. So not to catch a pant leg on.

This would a be a perfect job for dual shield wire. Could probably cut welding time in half.

But you probably need a 300 or 400 amp welder. Oh, ohhhh.......more tools!

Depends how big of wire you want to run. I use .045 dual shield and I don’t run it much hotter then I do with .035 hardwire. A 252 Miller or similar would handle .045 fine if you had the appropriate mig gun. It puts out A LOT of heat when you get rolling. My 400 amp gun is marginal for the amount of heat it makes. I’ve had my hands get uncomfortable hot before through thick welding gloves when welding with dual shield. Overall it’s good stuff.

My old D8 -1955 had had bars welded on way before I got it. They can break off.
