It is certainly doable and you are on the track.

Having said that, I think for what you are doing, a 12 volt electric pump would be better suited for such limited use as you propose. They work very well, don't cost much, and install much quicker. You wouldn't even need to make it a permanent installation, but I suppose you are using a flatbed, so finding installation on the side underneath would be pretty easy.
