Pod numbers vary greatly. Bean size seems to have more influence on yield than pod #s. That being said, the more pods the better! :)

Here is the rule of thumb I have found over the years. In our drilled beans (maybe 150K final pop), if I was counting 20 pods pretty consistently, they would make 40 bu/ac. Figure on either side of that proportionately.

From three different fields a mile from each other, I pulled plants that had 102, 40 and 30 pods. I wish they all had 102 (that was quite a plant! I should have taken a picture). I shouldn't have pulled that one. It was a new RR2 variety. We will see when harvest comes.
