They will work without calibration but will work better with calibration. If all you do is just raise and lower implements the operator might not notice if not calibrated. If running applications that need good flow control have it calibrated for sure.  You can help reduce the bill for a calibration by having the hydraulic oil heated up before the tech arrives.
