Subject: Re: Question on side-dressing N on corn

The optimum time for dribbling is just before a soaking rain. Last time I grew corn I put down 60 pounds of N as 32% with the planter and then planned on injecting 40 pounds with coulters every other row. I broke my cobbled coulter mounting the first pass across the field (both times feeding the 32% with my three point sprayer and orifices for metering), so I dribbled the rest on. Raised 173 bu corn on 111 units of N so I didn't loose much. It did rain a couple days after I side dressed.

I think injecting is preferred, but dribbling did work. Around here (central Iowa) its too late to side dress.
