| I have planted popcorn sold for popping on multiple occasions and it has always germinated well.
If the popcorn was from a hybrid parent, the resulting plants tend to have quite a bit of variability but some of the seed that I've saved from hybrid popcorn has actually yielded pretty well.
We've been growing about an acre of purple and gold popcorn (school colors) at the WIU Organic research farm for several years and have not found the perfect purple yet but keep looking. This year we are growing Shaman's Blue. We are also growing a yellow variety from Vogel (Con Agra).
