Subject: RE: Managing soybean cost

central - east central Minnesota -
I planted a few acres of 140,000 pop (down the tube - not adjusted for germ or enviroment) this spring with my JD750 for guys. The beans look great. Final stand now is in the 125-130k range. Pretty good for the type of spring/summer we had so far. I'm not advocating this practice, but goes to show how beans will adjust to the conditions. Variety will play a role also, at lower pops with a drill, a bush or simi-bush bean is neccessary. Soil / residue conditions play a part also. As pointed out in other threads/post, the day of 200000 + pops are not neccessary. Save some bucks per acre and cut your seeding rates. Do a few test rounds at lower, extreme lower pops and see what happens. . . .
