E ND | That's a pretty big range to compare. The 259D is definitely a power house for it's size, great at what it is but not even close to the 299D in any way. You're looking at a $25k price difference new with two models between there also. If you're thinking mulcher or other high flow tools, definitely go with the larger engine 299D. 299D sits quite a bit differently than the 259D for grading with the longer undercarriage. You can also shim the lower loader stops (shims available from Cat parts) to fine tune the rear bucket height. I think the 259D, especially with counterweights can be tougher to hold a good grade with. As far as lift capacity the 259D will do what the book says but not much more where the 299D will go above that in the field.
No question, get ride control. Dealer can add it to a used machine also at any time but between the torsion axle suspension, air-ride seat and the speed activated auto ride control there's nothing that compare to the Cat CTL's for a smooth ride and a machine that won't be rattling apart at 1,500 hours. | |
