It got rid of the skunk smell for us.  Long story.  I didn't notice the antiseptic quality on the one we purchased.  May be a new thing or it just wasn't important at the time.

edit, yes no doubt kids will throw out lots of things, I suspect my kids don't even know the purpose of much of my stuff.
