I'm surprised by the farmer's response to this viral outbreak. When we have a pen of animals break with a sickness that we aren't familiar with, we don't say "no big deal, only 1/2% of them died this week," if we haven't found a successful treatment and there are new infections every day.
I think that's why some farmers appear more callous than others. Maybe those that have been through this with livestock realize it's foolish to think that it can't happen to humans. |
