Alot of "best used by" is simple lot tracing. Put a date code on it, a year out, so you can trace it back to date of manufacture for recalls, quality control, etc. People figure a year out because normally supply chain is maybe a few weeks or months worth, so it will never really expire. A lot of food items are thrown out that are "expired" that are perfectly fine. | |
