Maybe your soils are different, but 3-4 years ago I had a bearing go out on one of my John Deere fertilizer openers, and instead of fixing it I removed it and ran the tube and zip tied it behind the closing wheels. When the corn was about knee high I could see which row was dribbled on top. I will fix the bearing next time.
