McCanna, ND | 20” tires ride like garbage with a ~31” tire, they also seem to collect more snow/ice/mud/dirt in the rims then smaller rims causing balance issues comparing factory to factory rims. 285s can look good no question, But for a pickup that sees work I’ll stay 265 or narrower. Narrower tires are going to dig in mud better and perform better on ice.
With these new diesels having 50% more torque then just 5-10 years ago LT tires don’t even make sense anymore if you’re pulling with it a lot. I burned off 2 sets of 17” Firestone’s in 25/35k miles. My 225/70/19.5s are at 55k and still have 35% tread left. Coupled with these new pickups higher towing ratings 19.5s make a lot of sense. I believe my rims are rated for 4500+ pounds, I “only” got 12 ply tires but 14 and 16 are a option as well, but maybe they aren’t wide enough for the grocery getter crowd. | |
