NW Washington | Soil chemistry is a not an easy science to quickly learn. There are so many factors at work like type of clay, Mg and Ca levels, crop use, weather, organc material levels and soil OM levels to cite a few. I would suggest that you get a copy of "The Nature and Properties of SOILS" by Nyle C. Brady which is a common college soils textbook which is now in its about 13th edition. It has a chapter on Potassium and discusses fixation in various soils.
