NW Iowa
I work on CAN systems too, and yes can lines can be checked. Yellow and green wire sum of 5. I was originally trained by Vermeer for drilling rigs, track trenchers, and environmental eq. All CAN operated. But sometimes they do not communicate correctly.
The EDT tool helps to check that point A communicates with point B. I had one tractor I had to reenter the VIN number to get 2 valves to work. The code needs to be changed if you change tire sizes, for correct road speed with the CVT. I've had some 5 yrs out of warranty have an auto 5 go bad. If you put a new one in, the dealer has to flash it. The service call is as much as the computer.
Unlike you I don't work on every brand, I'm strictly Agco. I also farm about 1000 acres, have cows, and no hired help. I don't want to wrench full time. Just need the tool for my own use. It's not a one size fits all for everyone. I don't need the tool a lot, but when I do, I really need it. I'm not going to argue with you about it. You do it for a business, I do it to farm. Maybe you don't want farmers to have it so you have more business. Sounds like you are rooting for JD.
