Oregon | You are correct. One of Deere's arguments is that you do not own the software operating the equipment- you hold only a license to use it and that license does not permit you to alter, trouble shoot, or repair anything software related.
Not all companies treat this issue the same. Some allow customers to access and alter factory software. So far, and as long as the true-believers think everything is fine the way it is, Deere dos not.
If everything you own is under warranty, you probably do not care. If you own equipment out of warranty and either repair it yourself or hire independent mechanics, you are going to care a lot about it as time passes and those closed-universe systems require diagnosis and repair.
