Have you tried pulling the choke when it acts up? If it gets worse and dies, you could eliminate it running out of fuel. Choking a flooding engine will make it run worse, if at all. Also, how do the plugs look after it dies?
Clamp an inductive timing light on each plug wire and it will quit flashing if the ignition is acting up at high rpm.
