SW OH | We used to do several pyramids with tarps every year. 3-2-1 stack on top of pallets. 4x5 bales. A tall pole to start stack against with a cross board to catch the 2 bales. Put a log chain under each end of the stack. Can't remember how long each stack was but we bought the largest tarp harbor freight sells. Not hard to put on as long as it's not windy. Lay it out on one side and 2 people climb over stack sideways pulling tarp as you go. When in place put a 2" ratchet strap over each end tieing it to the chain under the pallets. Hang 1 gallon jugs full of used antifreeze or something that won't freeze to each grommet. Tighten the ratchet straps. Before you pull tarp over tie some jugs on the side of the tarp not going over the hay so you don't pull it all the way over. The key is using the jugs as hold downs. They will be off the ground a foot or so and hold with constant even tension as the hay settles. Tarps are good for 2-3 years. Last ones were destroyed when the remenents of hurricane Ike came through. They survived 60, maybe 70 MPH winds, but we had 79 MPH gusts. All this being said, barns are much nicer.
