For those of you that run a John Deere high speed anhydrous bar have you seen any anhydrous burn in spring applied and if so what conditions did it happen in?
I have only ran one last year so may not be a good year to compare.
Late April/early May corn: Dry P & K put on with the NH3. Worst of the Anhydrous corn (urea corn was worse). Zone too hot or too much water after planting? Planted a few days after application. Shallow setting on depth. August and early September no rain.
June corn: NH3 only. Best Corn (Some fields way above APH). Set the applicator as deep as it would go. Late September rains helped? Or no dry fertilizer in the zone so not as hot? Chased the applicator with the planter. Beautiful looking corn. No evidence of burn.
Tried to make sure we were splitting the centers when planting. Sounds good in theory, but my Missouri fields are near impossible to accomplish. Felt like we were applying NH3 in too wet conditions the whole time (April through June) but everyone did if they wanted to get anything done.
Plan on running the applicator as deep as possible from now on. Enjoy going 10 mph. I never broke a shear bolt or shank all year. But I did clean several gauge wheels out. Nicer no-till planting behind the 2510H than behind the mole knife. |
