| I,am seriously looking into buying a tractor of this vintage mostly because of price and availability. I need pto, diff lock. What are your opinions on transmissions, does it have to be powershift or is the 24 speed ok. I am not really opposed to owning a Blue or Red one either of this vintage if they are something I should possibly be looking at if they are are more reasonably priced for what you get. |

| For my tastes, and anything other than grain cart duty, a 24 speed would be just fine. It simply puts more power to the drawbar. How much time is spent shifting anyway in tillage operations? And they are considerably cheaper and less costly to repair if needed. What else does do you need to know? |

SE ND | I would personally prefer the power shift.
Consider getting the 9330 and tuning it up. The 9330 and 9430 are 100% identical tractors, yet 50HP difference that can efficiently and cheaply be adjusted.
John Deere tier 3 equipment is coming with a premium so be prepared. |

I would check parts to be sure. The 93/9420 has some different parts in the front axle for example. |

SE ND | Correct, 9330/9430 are 100% identical tractors with the same spec list. 9530/9630 then have double reduction axles to handle the high horsepower series. |

| There will be some tillage done with it. I have a small feedyard so a dozer. box scraper, and manure spreader. haygrinder, will put the majority of the hours on it, |

| I had somone tell me that the 9430 is louder in the cab than a 9330, anyone else have an opinion?

WCIL | We have an 09 9430 with about 3200 hrs. It is a strong tractor and comfortable cab and controls. Ours is powershift and we get along great with it and would do again. Last 2 tractors had 24 sp and nothing wrong with those either. They have a high and low which is handy for tough spots or hills. Downside is the bad water pump design that can fail and put pieces in the engine. They recommend a 2000 hour-ish preventative replacement. Also the fan drive pulley bearings can go out. That can be checked with a pry bar to find up and down play. Also ours got hard to start like it wasn't getting fuel. After dealer replaced a slightly weak fuel pump and a check valve it seemed to be fixed but acted up again. Got Deere factory involved and they put on a new computer to try at no cost and that did not help. Ended up recommending new injectors and cups and so far its working except for a couple times per year. No pattern to it, doesn't make sense. So in summary, I would check on the water pump history, fan drive maintenance, and if any injector work has been done. We started having trouble at 2800 hrs with the fan drive and injectors. Very disappointing to have several thousand dollars in fixes on a low houred tractor. Not our usual experience, but a search on here will find we aren't the only ones. If previous owner has done these things, you should be good to go for a while. Good luck. |

So. IL | Good luck finding one. I have been looking all over the past 6 months and it's either R series price of sky high hours. The 9430-9330 is bringing a premium right now and very few are being traded. 95-96 can not have a pto either. My dealer is saying $15k ish for a pto to be added to a 93-94 as well, and used pto units are like hitting the the lotto. Everyone wants one for a grain cart so they are in high demand. |

Geuda Springs, Kansas | Water pump is a real thing. Our neighbors didn’t even make it 1500 hrs and he had to spend $30,000 on an engine. This kind of turned me off of these tractors. |

|
East Texas | I don’t think so. I have a 9330 and 9530 and they’re the same. 9530 shifts better. |

Southeast Colorado | I keep hearing that. Been thinking about parting out the PTO and 3 point off my high houred 9200. Then just selling the tractor as a bare back. Evidently it'd be worth a lot more than just selling it all together. Sounds funny.............but this keeps coming up over and over. |
