my experiance (i have never tig welded) Brazing really works well just make sure get the cast warm enough. Nickle rod is good but make sure to keep peaning the weld as it cools. Stainless can work and is cheaper then ni rods. I have also had moderatly good luck using a wirefeed welder which was suggested to me by our local shop. Big key is to make sure to grind it out so the edges are angled
