Not sure this applys to your particular situation, but, on cast iron (such as manifolds) I preheat to cherry red, weld with ER70S6 mig wire, peen and post heat to almost cherry red and slow cool. We've had excellent results with cast that wasn't already deteriorated and pitted. John
