UP / Thumb of Michigan | I'll reply here rather than up above- we have owned 2 carts like Rons red one in his pics. We normally ran a one trip deal, zone till and plant in one pass. I have pre stripped some wheat stubble with one of the carts, worked OK for what we were trying to do. Anyway, our last cart and planter went to New York this spring.
Fall strips was a pretty tough thing for us to consider based on late harvests and a shortage of manpower that time of year. We were generally trying to spray at that time of year as well, so fall strips was something we didn't give much thought to. Only reason I bring it up is that I have very little experiance with fall strips. We've ran a 3 coulter Rawson set up in the spring on all our ground since 1993, however.
Bob Keitzmans # is 616-642-9759. He seems to always have a line on Rawson parts and carts. I know he had a few on his lot this spring of various sizes. He could tell you what a coulter unit weighs for sure. My impression is that 48 coulter units will be very heavy to lift on a 3 pt. Thats a gut feeling, so don't take my word for it. Bob or Ray will know.
Ron described Rays set up pretty well- he uses an air box on top of the frame and just shoots dry in front of the lead coulter. Ray always told me he'd like to be liquid, but his ground is generally short of K. When we went to liquid fert in the 70's, the reason was that no one was building much to handle large volumes of dry. Thats changed since then. Anyway, most of our farm has needed K only sporadically the last few years, so we've been satisfied broadcasting that lately. All my P and micros as well as a major shot of N goes on behind the coulters at planting. | |
