Losing power and falling sounds like battery disconnect, they can get slightly puffy putting a strain on the latch which increases as it gets hot during discharge.
If connection is lost for any reason it should simply stop and return home after a few seconds, provided the default option hasn't been changed to hover or land (you might do that if near trees or a bridge for example)
