We've never done it yet as we run ours through an auger, but you could try a small sample of non-pelleted. Apparently, once they are used to it, they love it. Never tried it though. Yet.
I am sure there is something else you could try. Our calf starter, I'm pretty sure, is closer to $300/T. And that is with no ingredients grown within 1000kms.
