Nice, got through 3 so far.

Boy, sliding shields vs rolling shields. I’m old enough to have used both. In my dirt the sliding ones are trouble. Seems easier to set the rolling so a little dirt flows under, could adjust the length of the legs on the rollers. Those sliding type didn’t hang right in our dirt.

Dad had disk cutters, might be covered later, a disk blade on a shank, put those close to the row and drive slow, they got rid of weeds, but also the crop if you got off they were unforgiving. That was with a mid mount cultivator, lot easier to use.

Tunnel shields are where it's at. Seems like rolling shields can ride up on the wave of soil you are trying to protect against. Love our tunnels because they also help keep flying dirt off the top of the crop.

Edit:

That being said, we have rolling shields on our 856, and the speed shields on the rear shank make a whole different machine out of it. That shield really helps but up the rear shank clods and keeps from throwing too much dirt. We still want to mount a set of tunnels on these though.
