East central Indiana | My memory as a kid plowing in the 1980’s with a F145 and a 1450 was that 1450 had more clearance but left the ground a lot rougher . Would have issues in fall/early winter corn stalks plugging up even in 1450. That was before 200 bpa residue. Steering was mechanical and whole plow would suck(get wider) out bad in black or red dirt compared to white dirt. Was not a hydraulic variable width...
Never used a newer model with hydraulic steer as my father said cylinders were problematic and if ground conditions were slick it took a fwa tractor to turn sharp on the ends.
Personally, I was sad when the F145 was shot, but thrilled when the 1450 left on a scrap load. Was also no tilling into stalks by then so didn’t need trash flow... | |
