We currently run a 630F head and get along just fine. I still believe they are the best auger head ever built but it still is an auger head.
I’m looking at going to a Draper to help improve feeding in green tough beans and eliminate head shatter in dry dead beans. I believe and can verify losing 2-3 bu on 9-10% beans and really dry pods. If I could cut another 10-20 acres a day and save those bu it would shave off 3ish days of beans. I’m hoping to maintain speed after dark instead of losing 1-1.5mph when they get tough. Beans start to bunch and wrap hence the slowing down to get them to feed. HP is not an issue.
Questions are, how do we upgrade face plate to handle the heavier head?
Do I need to add a 3rd lift cylinder or do I upgrade them to Large frame 9x60 cylinders?
How much fluid do I add to the rear 600 tires for ballast?
Who is a good MacDon dealer in Northern MO or Southern Iowa?
Any other helpful hints?
We ran a 30' MacDon flexdraper on our 9560 and it was a really nice fit. Didn't change a thing on the combine as far as faceplate or cylinders but did bump up the pressure a little to help lift. The machine is still running trouble free today so I sure wouldn't be worried about turning up your pressure.
You will need the narrow feed kit from MacDon unless your dealer knows it's going on a 9560 and they install it. Basically belt extensions to bring the crop a little farther towards the center of the middle feed belt because of the narrower machine. |
