southern MN | I believe you need to hook up to the Internet by WiFi to get going, but you don’t need the phone to be active cellularly or be connected up while flying. There are some mapping features that would like to but don’t need to.
A drone takes a fair amount of processing power these days so you can’t use any old phone, but likely it will work for you as quite a few do work. Here is a list:
